Commissioning a Pastel Portrait

1. Initial Consultation. This is the first step in the creation of a portrait and the time during which the client and I discuss the style of portrait the client has in mind.

2. Photographic Session. I will photograph the client at his or her home or in the studio. Occasionally, more than one photo session may be necessary.

3. Reviewing the Photographs. I’ll choose the very best photographs from our sessions, and then meet with you in order to select those that best capture the subject in likeness and personality. Once a composition has been agreed on, I require a 50% deposit, and work begins on your portrait.

4. Sittings. If we get precisely what we want from the photo sessions, the need for sittings may be eliminated. However, if you’re local and available, I might request brief sittings in my studio before completing your portrait.

5. Approving the Finished Portrait. I’ll send you a digital image for review upon completion, at which time minor changes can be made. Once you approve the work, final payment is due, and your portrait is delivered.
